I’m Back

I’m back from my whirlwind tour of Germany & Czech Republic.

I saw my Sweet Girl.

I made new friends.

I ate good food.

Here it is.

My first glimpse of German ground at the Dusseldorf airport.

As we made our way to Herrnhut it was bitterly cold and snowing in Lobau.

The Castle that I slept in for a couple nights...if you can call it sleep.

I was up at 6:30am and had nothing else to do but go for a walk in the freezing cold snow.  It was a beautiful walk though.  I followed footprints into the woods along a trail.  I circled around the Castle and down the road into the little village that neighbored the Castle.  It was so quaint and cute.

There were trails in the woods and signs...does anyone know what this says?

As I was flying over Germany I saw lots of these...wind turbines!

This was my favorite little house. It had a snow covered garden in the front yard.

Most of the houses had only tiny yards, but most of them had some kind of a greenhouse or hoophouse for plants.

The snow didn’t last long and was melted by the next day.  Here’s the same garden without snow.

I was told that when Germans move they take EVERYTHING including the doorknobs!  So, everything in this flat was put there when they moved in…including the cabinets and sink and faucet…which by the way are IKEA.  They also have quite an elaborate trash system…..oh the joys of a socialistic society…..all the trash is required to be separated into 4 cans!!!  The one can called …residual is stuff that no one knows what to do with…and I suppose we have lots of residual trash in America….well, in Germany you have to pay per kilo for your residual trash.  So, it’s your aim not to have any.

Becca had quite a list of things she requested I bring, of which chocolate chips and brown sugar were at the top.  Cookies anyone?

Okay.  That’s enough for now….there’s more for tomorrow.  Then I’ll have a day for our jaunt in Prague.
